Tania’s Place Announced as First Winner of 2014 ADP® Small Business Grant Contest
Grant will help hire new staff for growing business that assists young adults with special needs
Toronto, January 28, 2014 - ADP Canada Co., a leading global provider of human capital management solutions, today announced that Tania’s Place, an activity centre for adults with special needs based in Ajax, Ontario, is the first winner of ADP Canada’s 2014 Small Business Grant Contest. The contest offers entrepreneurs the chance to win a $10,000 cash prize.
In her winning application, Francie Trajkovski, Executive Director and founder of Tania’s Place, described her daughter Tania as the inspiration for opening the activity centre. Tania has special needs and, due to her intellectual disability, she is unable to work or attend post-secondary school. When Ms. Trajkovski researched assistive programs for Tania after the teen graduated from high school, she learned there were few options. Drawing on her past work experience managing large recreational facilities, Ms. Trajkovski opened her own “day program” facility that could cater to the needs of her daughter and other special needs individuals in the community just east of Toronto. Since launching in 2004, Tania’s Place has become one of the largest day programs in Durham Region and continues to grow. Recently, the business moved to a spacious 8,000 square foot building, enabling Tania’s Place to serve more than 100 families. Winning ADP’s Small Business Grant contest will allow Tania’s Place to hire its eighth full-time employee and to pay down its renovation costs.
“Winning the ADP Small Business Grant Contest is a miracle for us,” said Trajkovski. “We’ll now be able to pay down our renovation costs more quickly and continue growing and providing quality care and services to additional special needs families in our community.”
Ms. Trajkovski has been using ADP as her payroll service provider for over a year now. As part of the Small Business Grant Contest prize, Tania’s Place will also have its payroll processing fees waived for one year.
“Tania’s Place is an inspirational story and a shining example of the big difference that small businesses make in our communities,” said Greg Secord, President, ADP Canada, Employer Services Division. “We are confident the prize money will allow Tania’s Place to expand their very meaningful work.”
Through its relationships with more than 400,000 small businesses across North America, ADP has unique insights into the challenges that confront entrepreneurs every day. ADP’s trusted small business solutions help reduce costs and compliance risks associated with complex rules and regulations, so owners can focus on growing their businesses.
The ADP Small Business Grant Contest is open to all Canadian business owners with 1- 49 employees, and entries will be received until March 31, 2014. A winner will be announced for each month from November 2013 to April 2014. Winners will also have their payroll processing fees waived for one year, up to a $3500 value.
Entrepreneurs can enter the contest by sharing their business story and describing what they would do with $10,000. They can then invite their customers, employees, friends and family to show their support by voting for their submission online.
